No. If it is a RAID SAS controller, it can only work with SAS or SATA drives. Such controller can only send SCSI commands. There is SCSI-ATA pass through subsystem in Linux that enables work with SATA drives as well.
As opposed to that, U.2 drives work via NVMe protocol using NVMe commands only.
